Studies in the United States have indicated that an
average of One Sinker is Lost every Six Hours
fishing. Nearly 3 million pounds (1500 TONS) of lead sinkers and jigs are
deposited accidentally in United States waters every year!

dragging the bottom.
- CERAMIC HARD FINISH makes a Crayfish

It is illegal to sell Lead Sinkers that
weigh 1/2 ounce or less in Maine as of the new year (2002.) New Hampshire also had made it illegal to use
Lead Sinkers less than a ounce and
Jigs less than a inch in length in any of the state's freshwater areas.

How
does lead equipment affect waterfowl?
Waterfowl such as loons eat the lead equipment which they
mistake for snails. They die of lead poisoning. A single lead
sinker is enough to kill a loon.
When a bird ingests lead, they break down the lead in their
gizzard or stomach. The acid in the gizzard dissolves the lead and
it enters the bloodstream where it is carried to the organs. The
lead accumulates in the organs and bones, killing the bird.
