Bobber With a Brain -- Fishing Tips Section.

See Frank's Personal Information site now! <CLICK HERE>

In the MANY YEARS of testing and improving my Bobber, I have found some tips/tricks that I use to catch upwards of 30 fish in 2 1/2 hours on a regular basis! Don't shake your head, I am serious, very serious about my Bobber. I hope these will help you and your fishing overall.

It might be a good idea to print this page and take it fishing with the BWAB. Put your mouse pointer on this page, Click it and then Click the right button, select PRINT from the pop up menu!

I will be updating this page from time to time. So please bookmark it and return.

SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT FISHING TIP OF ALL TIME!

This is it! This is something that is a fact. It is free and for you from us here at Big Ten Tackle. This single TIP will save you years of disappointment. ARE YOU READY? Ok..

Find a Lake, Stream, River, or a bucket of water WITH FISH IN IT ! Cause lets face it, YOU CAN'T CATCH WHAT ISN'T THERE! Without Fish, it's just not going to happen PERIOD!

I like to keep moving if a spot gets quiet. Sometimes a few steps away from the chair you were in could net you a nice fish!

Casting our Bobber:    (Most Important B.W.A.B. Tip!!)

Let about a foot or more of line out between rod tip and Bobber. This helps give you a real nice swing as you let the cast go. Closer to the rod and it doesn't flow, to far away from it and it will "loop" out over the lake. I believe you know how to time the cast and let it go, so I will move on. One thing, YOU CAN REALLY WHIP THIS BOBBER! So put some muscle on it and WATCH IT GO!

When the Bobber With a Brain strikes the water,  I like to relax the line by opening the reel so the line is free "caster" and letting the line feed out. This will allow the Bobber to send the sinker on the bottom and begin to tilt up. You can close your reel again, or when I use two rods, leave it open. Closing it might lead to a BIG FISH pulling your rod in the water when your discussing Fishing secrets with your buddy! It happens!

IF YOUR BOBBER IS NOT TILTING STRAIGHT UP, TRY RELEASING SOME LINE FROM YOUR ROD! I have had allot of questions about why the Bobber wants to sit sideways. Sometimes a quick Jig on the line will release the Bobber up too. On the first cast, we find the Bobber is dry and it needs to get wet to work right.

I figure it takes a solid hour to learn how to use this product. The Bobber With A Brain has a different style of showing a "hit." As a fish takes the bait the Bobber will pull to one side and move along the water. Conventional Bobber will sink more. Since our Bobber already has the sinker on the bottom, the hit will look a little different. Since the line come out the top of the bobber and it straight up in the water, this product is Extremely Sensitive to fish nibbles! Even a small Minnow can set it off guiding down the lake!

JIGGING:      (Most Effective Use of the B.W.A.B!)

The real power I feel is in the JIG action you can put on your baits with this Bobber! 2nd reason in  TOP TEN Reasons.

Let me explain the Jigging action, Cast out and let it set up as above. As you are holding your rod in your hands, just lightly pull and relax, until you move the bobber a little, repeat many times. What this will do for you is "dance" you bait in the water. The bait above sinker really does dance. It will catch the attention of the fish, BIG TIME! Play with this idea, Don't think there is a wrong way to do it. Reel in a little and relax the line, The bobber resets the depth immediately, and flips up. Ready to be Jigged more. After you get a hit and feel you lost the fish, just relax the line and jig a little more, usually they notice that wiggle of the bait and grab it again.

If you miss your fish after you try to hook him, Just let the line relax, the Bobber will reset, then Jig some more. The fish might still be looking at what he thinks is dinner. and BANG! So many times I have got the one that tried to run away! If you have multiple hooks on your rig, this could lead to a double catch! Fish react off other fishes action.

This makes the BWAB such a fun piece of tackle. We feel this Jigging option makes this product stand out over and above all other Bobbers!!

Actually I have noticed by fishing with two poles, if I leave one sit, and jig the other, usually I get DOUBLE even TRIPLE the amount of action on the jigged Bobber! It is consistent too.

Fishing in a Medium Current: (River, Etc.)

The Bobber With A Brain will work excellent in a medium current! Use a heavier sinker 1/2 once or better! Place bait a foot above sinker and one below sinker if you want to use two baits! The bobber will point up stream and be at a 45 degree with the water. It will  also shake with the current but will not drift! A bite will move the bobber forward, very easy to detect a bite. If you want to move the bobber several feet simply pull on the rod and give a slight reel in motion the bobber will reset quickly Your sinker is three feet or more upstream from the bobber depending on the current and the line descends toward the sinker on about a 30 to 60 degree angle!

Works great in deep holes or around structure!      Watch out for snags if you use the bottom hook.

I like fishing two baits above the sinker one and two or more feet in a current! Even in shallow 3 feet water the bobber will work excellent and remember a bait three feet above the sinker will only be about 2 feet off the bottom in shallow water because of the angle of the line in the current! A bait a foot above the sinker will actually only be about 6 to 8 inches above the bottom because the line is on a angle with the bobber and sinker!

 Boat Fishing:

Bobber With A Brain is a breeze on a boat! I like to fish either end of the boat. We believe boats tend to scare fish away (is this true?) When you cast out, the sinker acts like a "marker buoy," it anchors to the bottom. So, we found that by casting out and letting the bobber drift away from the boat, it allows the fish to relocate back after you drift away from that area. You will amazed at the distance you can see the bobber clearly and any action on it! As you drift away, pull the rod a little (Jig,) reel a little, keep action on the baits. If you get close to the boat with the bobber, just open the reel and let the line back out (bobber will drift away from you as the sinker anchors it.) This keeps the bobber in the water for longer periods. Just great for tough, hearty baits like leeches, who stay on the hook. This also allows you to keep the motors off, which keeps more fish around you.

It's great to anchor the boat and work the shoreline with this bobber. Also you can find drop-offs on your fish finder and work the drop knowing where it is by watching the line go out after your cast!

It is amazing when the wind or a wake hits and the bobber is standing up straight in the water, moving your baits as it wiggles!

 Fishing Baits:

I usually use Night Crawlers, Small Worms, Minnows, and Wax Worms, But I'll try anything as any typical fisherman will do. I like to change to other style baits, when it seems the action slows down. If it works, stay with it.

Night Crawlers:

Hook a WHOLE Night Crawler about one inch down from the top, near the "ring" on the worm. pull the hook up thru the Crawler and let it come back out. Key to this is to let the end of the worm wiggle free, so when you Jig the Bobber the worm will "dance." This really works GREAT! Bass love it! You will use allot more bait, but much better to catch fish than take worms back home. right?

Minnows:

Best way I found to hook any size minnow is to hold it with the tail out. Hook the tail anywhere in the "meat" area before the tail fin. I have found they stay alive longer and it actually looks like they are hurt to the other fish. A fish will usually swallow another fish HEAD FIRST, the fins all collapse and the fish goes right down. With this style rigging of your minnow, the prize fish will grab it and be ready to swallow when you GET HIM!

Here is something to try next time you are fighting to get a minnow from your minnow bucket to hook. They are slippery little guys. I suggest you actually drop them in the dry dirt. The Dirt will STICK to the minnow and you can grab him, hook him, and find yourself casting him out quick. Also the dirt will wash off when he hits the water. It REALLY WORKS NICE!!

Leeches:

I just started to use Leeches more lately since I have had some really nice luck on them this year. If your like me, I don't really like getting them "stuck" to my skin. So I like to do this when I hook them. I will remove one from the cup and lay it on a flat surface, Then I take the hook and I just push it down on the back of the Leech with the sharp point end. It will slip right thru, then I can pick it up on the hook and position the leech the way I want on the hook. Then you can pull him off if he thinks your delicious I think letting alot of the Leech hang out to wiggle is a great idea!

Snags:

You have to love this section! I know you don't want to hear it, but it does happen! Snags are just a part of fishing.

If you are in a heavy snag area. We suggest you remove the bottom leader hook from below the slip sinker. Then take that same leader hook and clip it to the swivel that holds the Bobber on. That way you have a two hook rig and less chance of snagging from the bottom. THE BOBBER WILL HOLD BOTH HOOKS OFF THE BOTTOM! WORKS GREAT!!

Best thing to do to keep your Bobber after a snag breaks your line, is to have a heaver line on your reel than on your leader. I like 12lb test on my reel and 10lb test on my rigs. Hang the Bobber with a swivel and click on the rig below. When you snag your hook, the rig will break and you can reel in the Bobber, snap a new one on, bait it, and out again! It is just that simple. What a perfect world it is!

If your line does break above the bobber stop swivel. You could lose the Bobber in this situation. My best suggestion is to reel in at a STEADY PACE. This sometimes makes the Ball and Magnet inside the Bobber hold the line for you to reel in the loose line and Bobber. It is amazing, but it does work at times.

When you reel in the Bobber With a Brain it will left your baits and sinker straight up and helps to stop snags.

What I like to do when I get a snag is to release the line, walk around the shoreline and tug a bit, release the line again, repeat. Relaxing the line tends to make it pull out of the snag. With the Bobber, it will pull the line more straight up, helping to loosen up the hook! Yeah, Snags are bad, but the BWAB gives you a little more chance of freeing it. Since fishing more with this Bobber, I have noticed I have allot less snagging going on.

RIGS:

The way you rig our Bobber is up to you. Course I recommend our Ready Rigs, which I have designed for use with BWAB. They just seem to work really well I think cause the bait actually hangs out from the line and causes a little "spring" type bounce on the baits.

Rigging is not easy for a fisherman who never tried it before. We use swivels or clips to hold the slip sinker on the line. That way you can bottom fish by clipping a leader hook on that swivel. Try about 12 to 15 inches away from Sinker, for both bottom and off bottom hooks. Off bottom hook should be tied with a loop in the line. So that hook hangs out a little. Click on our Hook Rigs Section for more information. If you don't understand off bottom hook, it is the hook above the sinker that the BWAB pulls up when it tilts in the water.. Also take a look at the BWAB page, the moving graphic will show the off bottom hook between the bobber and the sinker.

Experiment and try things. If you find a really good Rig idea, we would love to hear/see it. Maybe even sell it for ya.

NIGHT FISHING:

The BWAB is so sensitive that without a Lightstick you can just hold the line and "feel" a hit! Line slips so free through Bobber that it seems invisible. YOU DON'T HAVE TO SEE THE BOBBER, TO USE IT!!!

With a Lightstick, Which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! You slide down the float and tape the Lightstick to the post. This is something you have to see, Even if you think you seen it all. When the Bobber is in the water, You see "TWO" LIGHTSTICKS! One on the Bobber itself and one REFLECTED on the water. (understand when I say "two" Lightsticks.) When these two Lightsticks meet, you better be pulling, cause you have a hit in action! You can see those Lightsticks in the water from anywhere at night. You just don't know what fun is, until you fished at night with these Bobbers and Lightsticks. WOW! Simple to have TWO RODS out at night and not have to worry about the Lantern giving you light to see. You can even TURN IT OFF, to keep the bugs away! Click on our Night Fishing section for more information.

VERY IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE YOUR HANDS, THE BOBBER POST AND LIGHTSTICK ARE REALLY DRIED OFF BEFORE YOU TAPE THE LIGHTSTICK ON! We like Scotch Brand Transparent tape. Dry those Hands! It doesn't stick if it is wet!

Shore Fishing:

I don't know if anyone does this, but it "shore" works for me!

When I am fishing from the bank, I find a nice vacant area to allow me to cast my line down the shoreline. It might surprise you, without people around, some big fish move in close to shore at times. This works even better at night. By casting up the shore, you have the same chance as you would straight out in front of you. It will double your chance of at least catching something.

Roy and I both believe that if you can get the little fish active by catching a few, it will lure in the bigger ones. They want to see what all the commotion is about too.

Depending on the body of water your at, use your judgment as to how far out from shore to cast. Remember the water gets shallow which will increase your chance of a snag.

MOSS:  -Green Plants "Seaweed"

Almost as annoying as a Snag. This is another area in which the Bobber With A Brain SHINES! The best way to present your bait in a area you know has allot of Moss on the bottom is use this technique:

Cast out your B.W.A.B. and Rig about DOUBLE the distance where you want your fishing area to be at. Immediately after the B.W.A.B. and Rig hit the water, Start Reeling! You will see and feel when the line tightens on Bobber, The Bobber picks up speed. Now keep reeling to the fishing area you want and then stop. Open the front caster and let the line go out.

By doing these steps, you should now have your sinker resting on the "top" of the Moss. with the Baits above the sinker suspended between the Moss and the top of the water. Baits below sinker also (hopefully) lay on top of the Moss too. Now you can Jig or let the baits sit there.

Always CLEAN any Green stuff off your Rig and B.W.A.B. before every cast! So the Bobber stays clean inside!

Pay Lakes or Heavy Fished Areas:

Most of your Pay Fishing Lakes or Heavy fished areas contain what I like to call "Professional" style of fish. These guys have seen all the baits the world has to offer. They take the cake for style and win a gold metal at being able to "suck" a worm off a hook, leave town and give you the naked hook back when you reel in! Hence the term PROFESSIONAL! I have found, no matter what size fish, it works best to use a small piece of bait with not much extra hanging out. A whole worm (for example) can present a easy meal and a frustrated Fisherman! Our Bobber is so sensitive you can actually watch the crime in action, light hits and the little guys steal everything meaty on our hook!

A great bait for those Professional thieves is a Leech. They have a leather type skin and stick on the hook nice, also they don't tear off easy.

Any other ideas on being successful on pay lakes I would love to hear from you. Bobber fishing or not!

Tackle to use:

We recommend monofilament (plastic) fishing line with the BWAB.  We don't have any line troubles with the plastic based lines. The pinch the Bobber's Brain and Magnetic puts on the line, works well on all size lines. Seems any weight of line works.

Rod and Reel size is all up to you. Here is something to think about. You spend a TON of money on bait and a bunch of your time fishing, why not spend the extra few bucks for a solid, well made Rod and Reel? Reliable tackle helps allot when you need it the most.

FISHING NET! Just go out a get one! It's one of those things that is over looked so much. Take the net with you too! So many times I have lost a really nice fish, simply cause I didn't get the net from the vehicle. Even if your just fishing from shore, it will help in so many ways. I feel it doesn't hurt the fish as much using the net as picking it up from the water with your hands.

FIFTY (50) TROUT in THREE DAYS!

We fished the Bobber With A Brain with two baits (maggots & wax worms.) Two hooks one and two feet off bottom on each rig worked great. Six maggots per each size 6 hook or two wax worms. Close to shore at night, Jigging did the trick!  Each time I jigged the baits, I got very light bites by the Trout. Even caught three in a 30 mph wind.       -Frank Moff
